As a condition of use of the Essa Agriplex facility, participants assume all risk of personal injury, death or property loss from any cause whatsoever, including nut not limited to the risks, dangers, and hazards of a Demolition Derby and associated activities. Furthermore, the participant assumes all risk of personal injury, death or property loss resulting from negligence, breach of contract or statutory duty or care, including any duty of care under the Occupiers Liability Act, R.S.O. 1990, C..0.2 on the part of Barrie Fair, Essa & District Agricultural Society and their employees, agents, representatives and sponsors. The participant agrees that the Barrie Fair, Essa & District Agricultural Society and their employees, agents, representatives and sponsors shall not be liable for any personal injury, death or property loss.

The participant releases the Barrie Fair, Essa & District Agricultural Society and their employees, agents, representatives and sponsors and waives all claims with respect thereto. The participant agrees that any litigation involving the parties named above shall be brought solely within the Province of Ontario and shall be within the Province of Ontario and shall be within the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of the Province of Ontario. The participant further agrees that these conditions and any rights, duties and obligations as between the above named parties and the participant shall be governed by and interpreted solely in accordance with the laws of the Province
of Ontario and no other jurisdiction. The liability of Barrie Fair, Essa & District Agricultural Society and their employees, agents, representatives and sponsors is excluded by these conditions. Demolition Derby Rules

Show Date: Sunday August 27th 2023 at 1pm. Vehicle inspection prior to start time, please arrive early.
Volunteer Lead: Brad Lowe (EDAS Office 705-726-1200)

A. Definitions:
1. Mini Cars: Any 3 or 4 cylinder gas powered car. Maximum 16” O.E. rims. 1980 and newer.
2. Mini Vans/Large Class: Any 4 or 6 cylinder gas powered 2wd. Mid size van.
3. All Official’s decisions on class placement are final.
B. Demolition Derby
1. All Official’s decisions are final.
2. Driver’s must be eighteen (18) years of age or older and have a valid Driver’s Licence.
3. Pit Crew must be sixteen (16) years of age or older (maximum of 2). Must supply I.D.
4. No Refunds. Special circumstances related to technical evaluation may lead to a refund but only at the
discretion of the EDAS.
5. Drivers and Pit Crew must sign all release forms.
6. The EDAS volunteers and/or officials will not be held responsible for any cars, parts or personal property
before, during or after the event.
7. Vehicles run in previous demolition derbies may be considered too damaged or unsafe to be entered into
the event.
8. Anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted to participate in the event.
9. Intentional hit on Driver’s door will result in automatic disqualification (official’s ruling).
10. There is a 60 second restart rule in effect, drivers must restart their vehicle and make a competitive hit
within 60 seconds or they will be disqualified – Sandbagging will not be tolerated! Sandbagging will result in
disqualification.
11. There will be a 2 fire rule in effect at the official’s discretion. If there is no potential driver hazard or another
fire hazard (as deemed by the officials) the driver will be allowed to continue. Once you have a second fire –
you are disqualified.
12. Last aggressive hit will win the heat (official’s decision).
13. Driver’s will be disqualified if any illegal actions are observed.
14. Officials reserve the right to inspect and/or re-inspect any car – any time. Failure to oblige will result in
disqualification.
15. All vehicles to be removed the day of the event by 5:30 pm unless other arrangements made with EDAS.
16. Driver’s meeting to be held at 11 am – Attendance is mandatory.
17. All cars must be on the grounds by 10:30 am.
18. Be sure the highway traffic acts and MTO rules are followed when transporting derby vehicles to grounds.
19. Officials will be using flag signals: Green – start, Red – stop, there is an emergency, stop engine, remain in car,
Black – you are disqualified, stop engine, remain in car, Air Horn – fire, stop car, stop engine, remain in car
unless told otherwise.
20. A grand trophy will be presented to all 1st place winners, Driver’s will receive a plate on the trophy but the
trophies will remain on EDAS property.
21. Entry forms and money to be received one (1) week prior to event.
22. Each driver shall wear a helmet, eye protection and minimum of a stock seat belt.
23. Please read these rules as many times as necessary to have a completed understand of the event and EDAS
expectations.
24. No coaching

Entry fee will be $60 or more per vehicle, this includes an annual mandatory $15 membership fee to the EDAS. This
membership will allow you to vote on EDAS activities at the annual AGM and have a voice when it comes to
demolition derby activity in future years. Entry fee includes 2 Pit Crew positions and parking for the derby vehicle
and one other work vehicle (truck with trailer or other). Additional vehicles must be parked in the main lot with
regular Fair parking.

Demolition Derby Vehicle Building Specifications

These rules apply to mini vans/large class and 4-cylinder cars, some variances apply.

1. Safety for spectators, officials, drivers and crews is our first concern. Fire, flying debris, and impact injuries, keep these thoughts in mind when you are stripping and building your car.
2. Mandatory stripping of a car:
* Remove all glass, lights, lenses, mirrors and hardware.
* Remove all body trim, hubcaps and exterior ornaments.
* Remove fuel tank.
* Remove trailer hitch and all mounting hardware.
* Remove all interior upholstery, plastics, carpet, and trim except front seat. Dashboard may stay in.
* Prior to tech inspection car must be cleaned of all loose objects, glass and debris.
3. Building a safe competitive car:
* The tech judge’s decisions will be final.
* There will be no reinforcement except where specified.
* If it does not say it is allowed then it is not allowed.
* All vehicles will be checked for working brakes.
* Mandatory seat belt – lap belt is a minimum requirement.
4. Doors and door reinforcements:
* We will allow a cage built around driver from a sturdy, easily assembled material bolted to
* the car body. Bars may be welded to each other – not to be secured from B post to B post.
* As a minimum, the driver’s door may be reinforced with a maximum or 2″ x 6″ box steel, for a
* maximum of 76″ long.
* Door bars must be bolted or welded.
* Door bar can extend 8″ maximum ahead of the front fender/door seam.
* Placement of bolts; beware of drivers’ movement inside the vehicle.
* Remember, if this bar falls off – you are automatically disqualified from your heat.
* All doors must be chained, welded, stopped or secured shut.
* Passenger door bar attached in a similar way as above. This bar is optional.
* Cross bar behind the driver’s seat is strongly recommended – top of left B post to right floor.
* Head rest optional, but must be secure.
* It is also recommended that the bars, door and the steering wheel be padded around the driver.
5. Window areas:
* Minimum of one upright bar must be placed in windshield area in front of driver, steel mesh or
* plexiglass is optional on top of bars.
* Bars or mesh over driver’s window area is optional.
6. Hoods:
* Hoods are mandatory.
* Hood must have large enough hole suitable for fire extinguishing.
* Hood must be fastened with a minimum of two chains, bolts or wire; easily opened in case of fire.
* Hoods to be left open until inspected.
7. Trunks:
* Trunk lids are mandatory.
* Must be chained, bolted or wired; station wagon end gates secured with two chains, bolts or wires.
8. Battery:
* Must be relocated to the passenger side floor securely fastened by nuts, bolts and washers.
* Battery must be covered by a rubber mat or in a marine battery case.
* One (1) automotive type battery only.
9. Electric Switches:
* If used must be uniform. Up/forward for on, down/back for off.
* The electrical system must be fused.
10. Fuel System:

* Electric fuel pump must be isolated with non-flammable material covering lines, tank & pump. Non-flammable covering may be fire resistant blanket or airbag material.

* Floating gas tanks are permitted. Gas tank protector is allowed. Must be 2-4 inches away from the floor and any other sheet metal, cannot be any wider than 24-26 inches at its widest point. Gas tank protector can only be attached to the post to post bar. Not allowed to be attached to halo bar or floor in any way!! Over build gas tank protectors will be asked to cut down, or not allowed to run. Officials decision.
11. Cooling Systems:
* Cooling system must remain stock or be removed.
* Antifreeze must be drained and filled with water only!!!
* Cooling fans can be run but no steel fan blades are permitted.
12. Air Intake and Exhaust Systems:
* Must have an air cleaner assembly with a filter element to act as flame arrester.
* Exhaust must exit the engine compartment through the hood or out the bottom, manifolds alone are not enough, must extend 6″ past fire wall and not near fuel lines.
13. Bumpers:
* Appropriate size CAR BUMPERS ONLY. Rebar bumper only, chrome full size car bumpers not allowed on the front of a mini car. Bumper ends must be bent inward, no jagged edges. May be wired to rad cradle in 2
locations. May be welded to the brackets & frame, 6” from the back of bumper, 2 plates per side to hold bumper on. No steel the inside of the frame. Bumper shocks can be welded. Excessive use of material will be asked to be removed. Stock size bumper bolts acceptable for mounting. Bumpers cannot be wired to the hood. REAR BUMPERS STOCK. NO LOADING OF BUMPERS. Officials may request a hole be made in bumper for inspection.
14. Tires and Rims:
* Stock rims cannot be altered or reinforced.
* Valve stem protectors and tubes are allowed.
* No studded tires.
* Air only in tires, no additives, liquids, solids or fillers.
* Wheel wells may be trimmed for clearance (maximum of 1 inch).
* No light truck tires allowed.
* All tires must have visible dot and ply ratings on them.
* All wheel weights must be removed – mini car tires cannot exceed 16 inches rim diameter.
* Full size cars & mini van tires. Cannot exceed 18 inch diameter.
15. Engines, transmissions, differentials:
* Must be stock.
* Motor mounts and transmission mounts may be chained.
* Shifter type optional.
* Transmission cooler must be disconnected at the radiator or in front of the radiator.
* Transmission coolers are optional and if used must be securely mounted under the hood, behind
* the radiator and in front of the firewall.
* Steering must be stock and in stock position, no alterations or modifications permitted.
17. Paint and Body:
* No holes to be cut or left uncovered in the firewall.
* Driver’s door, only, must be painted white.
* Car must be any other colour(s) than white.
* No profanity as decorating or advertising.
* No cloning of paint jobs if you enter more than 1 car.
* Roof signs or other objects are not permitted in derby pits.
ALL VEHICLES MUST HAVE A WORKING FIRE EXTINGUISHER MOUNTED SECURELY WITHIN DRIVER’S REACH

***Rules and Terms follow a similar format to the documentation published by the Collingwood Agricultural Society and the Great Northern Exhibition, and Mom’s Motor Sports.***

TYPE OF CAR

1.    Open to any full-size truck or SUV. Not open to mini trucks like S-10, Ranger ETC MAX 3/4 ton
2.    NO convertibles, Jeeps, duallys. If you unsure of a truck/SUV contact us via email. If you have a vehicle and are unsure if it runs in the class please call
3.    Trucks previously ran may be considered too battered and unsafe, resulting in disqualification.
4.    If there is in any question regarding the participant’s vehicle it is the driver’s responsibility to prove make, model, year, engine etc
RUNNING
Risk: Demolition derbies are hazardous and high-risk sports; therefore, anyone with a health condition, i.e., concussion, heart problems, or who is pregnant should not compete. You are competing at your own risk.
Protect yourself: Work Boots, sport equipment such as, neck brace, knee pads, shoulder pads, hip pads etc. are recommended. No bare exposed skin.
All drivers MUST wear long pants/coveralls as well as long-sleeved shirts.
No exceptions. Working seat belt and racing helmet are mandatory. Helmets
MUST have chin straps. Goggles or face shields are recommended.
**No motocross style visors**
NO DRINKING OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ON TRACK, EMERGENCY VEHICLE AREA OR IN THE PIT AREA. Any driver or pit person under the influence of alcohol or drugs allowed in the pit area. This will be strictly enforced.
Careless driving in the pit area could result in disqualification.
All cars are to be removed from the fairgrounds or racetrack immediately following the show. Additional safety regulations may be imposed, depending on track and conditions.
PREPARATION OF CAR – REMOVE OR CONVERT THE FOLLOWING PRIOR TO ARRIVING AT FAIRGROUNDS OR TRACK
1. FLAMMABLE MATERIAL
All carpet, headliner, door pads and ALL other flammable material MUST be removed from inside of car. Front seat and dashboard may be left in place.
2. GLASS/ AIRBAGS
All windows, mirrors, airbags & trim, must be removed prior to derby event.
No loose glass smashed into the bottom of doors. DRIVERS SAFTEY
3. DOORS & NUMBERS
Driver’s door should be reinforced. MANDATORY THAT DRIVER DOOR MUST BE WHITE. Truck MUST clearly have a number on the vehicle (roof sign, contrasting paint on the door).
4. FIRE EXTINGUISHER
Must be within reach of the driver, must work and have a proper working gauge. Please check gauge on the extinguisher before arriving for the event.
5. BATTERY
Battery must be moved to front passenger floorboard/seat and securely fastened in a box/container clear of all fuel sources. Following inspection it must be covered with a non-flammable shield such as rubber mat, air bag or steel cover. Max 2 batteries. No milk crates or self-tapping screws.
6. GAS TANK
Stock gas tanks must be removed. Must be a steel marine tank, custom steel fuel tank, or certified racing fuel cell. All tanks must be securely fastened down (bolted) in the middle of the back seat area. Tank must be covered with a non-flammable material (rubber mat) after inspection. No movement to occur during inspection. Leaks will result in disqualification.
Gas tanks on trucks must be mounted to the frame rails and box cut out around the tank. Tanks cannot be mounted directly to the box floor. Extended cab trucks can have the tank mounted in the back seat area. No gas tank protectors. Official has final decision. No plastic fuel cells.
7. FUEL LINES/PUMP
All fuel lines must have leak proof fittings with steel or rubber lines (no clear lines). No exceptions. Lines should run inside car. Leaks will result in disqualification. All connections MUST have hose clamps to eliminate fuel leaks. Must have a safety shut off switch marked in red located on roof in center of the windshield area for officials use. Switch to control fuel pump only. Driver’s safety. MANDATORY. This rule is for fuel injected cars only.
8. FUEL SYSTEM
Electric fuel pump must be isolated with a non-flammable material covering lines, tank & pump. Example: covering may be fire resistant blanket or air bag material.
9. WELDING
ABSOLUTELY NO WELDING ON VEHICLE. ONLY WITHIN THE GUILDLINES OUTLINED. Body patching is limited to driver’s area floorboards. No Exceptions. Referee has final decision.
10. ENGINE/TRANSMISSION
Motors can be interchanged. Gm in FORD ECT. NO engine cradles, Distributor Protectors or drive line protectors of any kind. If the year/make/driveline of car is in question, driver MUST provide proof the car was made in that fashion, otherwise, Referee will have final say. Firewall can be cut out behind engine.
11. SHIFTERS
Aftermarket shifters are allowed.
12. HOOD & TRUNK/TAILGATE

Hoods are not mandatory. Without hood – use electric fan only – fans directly connected to motor must be removed. Hood to be in stock position or removed. With hood – a 12″ opening must be cut in the center of the hood. Hoods must remain open for officials’ inspection. Hood can be fastened down in maximum of 8 places including seat belt strapping, wire, chain or 2x2x2 angle iron bolted together with a 3/8″ bolt. Hoods/rad support can be wired to bumper in 4 places. These spots will account for 2 of the 8 spots. Hood can be bolted thru the rad support with 2 – ¾” rod or bolts can pass through hood, rad support, factory body mount location, bushing or hockey puck must be in place. Tailgates- If you choose to run without a tailgate/hatch you can have 2 spots of wire from side to side in the tail light area. Gates can be fastened closed in maximum of 8 place. Rear bumper can be wired to tailgate in 2 spots. Tailgates can be laid flat on the box floor and fastened thru the box only with 2- 3/4″ lengths of threaded rod. NOT through frame. Box sides can be folded over and fastened thru the box only with 2- 3/4″ lengths of threaded rod. Cabs can be welded to box with 2 3×3″plates per side and be bolted with 2 3/4 inch bolts with 4×4 washers fastening the cab to the box. Tailgates can be fastened shut in 8 total spots. No threaded rod from frame/floor to roof on SUV

 

13. DOOR FASTENING

All doors must be fastened shut with wire, straps or chains.Driver’s door may be welded solid.
17. BUMPERS
Front bumpers may be swapped to any OEM car bumper. Bumpers may be seam welded and loaded. SMW, MCF bumpers will be not be allowed. Front frame may be cut back to the front of the rad support. You will be allowed to do whatever you need to do to keep your bumper on the frame, 6” from the back of the bumper. DO NOT ABUSE THIS RULE OR YOU WILL CUT. Rear bumper can be removed. IF rear bumper is removed, a max 3×3 tube can be welded in between at the end of the frame rails so the rails do not become spears. Mandatory that both front and rear bumpers have minimum of 2 places of 9 wire holding the bumper on. Rear bumpers with a factory hitch/receiver built into the bumper must have the receiver cut flush with the bumper.
18. RADIATOR
Radiators and cooling system must be flushed of anti-freeze and only water added. Overflows for radiator must point downward to the ground. Radiator must be mounted in original position or removed. No screens allowed. (Stock A.C. condensers permitted in original position.) No metal added around the rad for reinforcement. No rad guards. STOCK
19. TRANSMISSION COOLER
No aftermarket coolers. Looped lines are ok.
20. SUSPENSION / STEERING
Suspension must be stock. Movement must occur with one persons effort. it is recommended that rear coiled springs be wired to the differential. 4wd trucks are allowed with drive shaft or transfer case removed. All steering components must remain stock other than Tie rods can be reinforced. Steering column between firewall and steering box may be modified, rag joints can be swapped to U-joints etc. There must still be a slide/collapsable shaft in place. If the truck did not come factory with a hanger bearing, you cannot add one. Sway bar must be mounted in the factory position with factory hardware or removed completely, do not touch it. Rear ends must be factory to vehicle.
21. FRAMES
A TOTAL of 6-4″x4″x1/4″ repair can be added to bent frames. All frame repairs must be painted a bright colour and be reported to officials before inspection. Must be 1 inch between repair plates. No seam welding frames. No tilting frames. No welding two different style frames together. No painting of frames. No hump plates. Trailer Hitch MUST be removed completely. All rust repair must be preapproved by head officials
22. MOTOR MOUNTS
Aftermarket mounts are allowed, no larger than factory. Engines are to be bolted in, not welded. Transmission crossmember to be stock or swapped out with 2x2x1/4 square tube. Crossmember to be bolted in with (1) ½” bolt per side. If you choose to weld your crossmember you can do so between the frame rails, crossmember to be straight across, no added material, no gussets. NO Transmission brace. Transmission may be bolted to the crossmember.
23. BODY MOUNTS
May be replaced with 3/4 threaded rod with 3×3 washers. NO extra bolts. All body mounts must have stock bushings. 2-¾” bolts can run thru box/cab attaching box to cab with 4″X4″ washers. This is for safety of drivers to keep the box on and protect the fuel tank. The two front body mounts may run through the rad support to be used to hold the hood down, sleeving allowed.
24. TIRES
Any tire may be used. Drive tires must be filled with air only. No valve stem protectors or Lip rings. No triple sidewalls (tire flaps) on drive tires. Rims may have welded in centers. Double tires and tubes are allowed.
25. PRE-BENDING
No pre-bending frame or body (unless stated in rule above, Box) Notching frames is permitted. Bolting of body panels is not permitted.
26. MECHANICAL REPAIRS
Must be stock material and in no way enhance ability/performance of vehicle. Rear ends, steering, control arms, axels must remain stock.
