Barrie Fair General Rules & Regulations

All exhibitors must abide by the general rules of the Essa & District Agricultural Society (EDAS) and the Barrie Fair, as well as the individual regulations of the division they are participating in.
The EDAS reserves all rights to the property and may restrict or prohibit admittance to the grounds to any person or group without giving reasons for such action. Further, the society may refuse the privilege of exhibiting to any individual without disclosing reasons for such refusal.
Each member, exhibitor, or visitor to the fair must place their animals, cars, trucks and exhibits as instructed by EDAS representatives, committee members and officials. Failure to abide by these instructions may result in removal from the property.

MEMBERSHIP

4. All Exhibitors MUST be a member of the Essa & District Agricultural Society (EDAS) in order to exhibit at the Barrie Fair. Memberships are $15 for Adults and $5 for Juniors under 18 years.
5. Membership application forms are available from the show office or online. Being a fully paid current year member entitles each person to the full benefits and privileges of voting members with the EDAS.

TRACEABILITY

6. We will not allow access to our fairgrounds for Dairy/ Beef Cattle, or Sheep unless they have an undamaged, intact approved RFID tag or identifier. This includes anything being exhibited in livestock shows, 4-H programs, or other educational animal display’s.
7. Every person who owns or has the possession, care or control of cattle or sheep being exhibited or displayed at the Barrie Fair is responsible to abide by the following requirements:

Ensure that the animal is identified by an approved tag or identifier before it is removed from a site (Example: From home farm or fairgrounds)
Ensure that all tags on your animals are undamaged and applied properly BEFORE leaving your property and BEFORE unloading your animals once you arrive at the fairgrounds
If an animal loses a tag while on our fairgrounds, you must immediately notify the barn boss/ your breed committee head, or staff in the show office and re-tag it with an approved RFID tag or identifier that has been provided by the Essa & District Agricultural Society. IMPORTANT: re. Dairy Animals: If you are provided with replacement NLID tags- the Owner is responsible for notifying the appropriate agency with the numbers
Animals that have lost a tag may not be allowed to show unless it has been retagged.
If an animal requires retagging with an EDAS tag; it is the responsibility of the OWNER to apply the replacement tag. Owners are required to bring their own taggers/ pliers to apply replacement tags, and equipment to restrain the animal if required

OFFICE RULES

8. Management referred to in the following statements means the Essa & District Agricultural Society (EDAS) Board of Directors and the General Manager.
9. Management reserves the right to make any alterations to classes as are deemed necessary. Should any questions arise not provided for in the rules and regulations, the decision of the Management shall be final.
10. NSF Cheques: For any NSF cheques returned a $50.00 charge will apply.

ENTRY INFORMATION

11. All entries must be made in writing or online. NO telephone entries will be accepted.
12. Accepted payment methods include: Visa, MasterCard, Debit, Cheque or Cash. Online Payments will be accepted by Credit Card through AssistExpo.
13. Entry Fees MUST be submitted with all SIGNED AND COMPLETE paper entry forms.
14. Faxed/Emailed and Online entries must be paid prior to the commencement of the class.
15. You can email completed entry forms to [email protected] or fax to 705-726-1250.
16. Failure to fully complete your entry form with applicable information may result in incorrect information in the catalogue.

17. NO LIVESTOCK NUMBERS OR ENTRY TAGS WILL BE ISSUED WITHOUT PAYMENT IN FULL OR OPEN CHEQUE.
18. Refer to additional rules for each department for entry fees.
19. Late Entries: Any accepted late entries will be subject to a $20 late fee. The following committees do NOT ACCEPT LATE ENTRIES: 4H Indoor Interclub; Hereford Show, & Angus Show.

ENTRIES

20. Completing the entry form correctly is the responsibility of the agent/exhibitor, which includes entering exhibits in the correct class.
21. Exhibits permitted to show that are entered in the incorrect class will not receive prize money for that class.
22. Should a class have insufficient entries when entries close, the entries may be combined at the discretion of the Management. Donated and Sponsored classes will have entire prize money paid out.
23. Exhibitors cancelling their entries shall forfeit their entry fee, except when a certification of disability is issued by a qualified Veterinarian. The certificate of disability must be received within 48 hours from your show date.
24. No animal or article is to be exhibited in more than one class or section except where specifically mentioned in the prize list.
25. No person shall be allowed to enter more than one specimen in any class. This rule is NOT applicable to livestock, but to all kinds of grain, seeds, roots, flowers, manufactured articles, etc., in which case the additional specimens would necessarily be precisely similar to the first.

PREMIUMS

26. Cheques will be issued by the Treasurer by September 30^th, 2020. Prize cheques will be issued to the person whose name is listed as the exhibitor, unless clearly stated otherwise. 4H exhibitors will be given cash immediately following placing in the ring. Lost or stolen cash will not be replaced.
27. The EDAS will not be responsible for the payment of prizes or special premiums offered by breed associations, societies, clubs or individuals.

No cattle will be permitted access to our fairgrounds unless they have an undamaged, intact approved RFID tag. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to ensure that all of the tags on their animals are undamaged and applied properly prior to leaving your property and prior to unloading at the fairgrounds.
IF an animal loses a tag while on our fairgrounds, you must immediately notify the appropriate committee head/ staff member and re-tag it with an RFID tag that has been supplied by our Agricultural Society at a charge to the exhibitor of $100. YOU will be responsible for applying the supplied tag to your animal prior to loading the animal to exit the property. Owners are required to bring their own taggers/ pliers to apply replacement tags, and equipment to restrain the animal if required.
Animals that have lost a tag may not be allowed to show unless it has been re-tagged.
ALL exhibitors must tidy up the barns to their best abilities by removing their hay and grains.

Supreme Champion Female & Bull are eligible to compete in the Masterfeeds Supreme Champion Show at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, and the RBC Supreme Beef Challenge at Canadian Western Agribition.

These are the rules of the 2024 Sheep Show:

1. All yearlings must have 3rd pair of temporary incisors in place.

2. All lambs must have 1st pair of temporary incisors in place.

3. In the event there are not 10 animals or 2 exhibitors showing in a breed, the breed may at the discretion of the committee be shown in the Other Breeds classes.

4. An exhibitor may enter and show in a maximum of 2 breeds.

5. An exhibitor may enter 2 animals per class to a maximum of 2 classes per breed.

6. Get of Sire- Group of 3 animals, full mouth milk teeth, by the same sire. Both sexes may be represented. All animals must be of 1 breed.

7. Breeders Flock- Bred and owned by the exhibitor. Group of 4 animals- both sexes must be represented. Each animal in the group must have been exhibited in one of the preceding classes. All animals in a group to be of one breed.
