Off the farm, Lauren plays violin and euphonium and has performed with local bands and orchestras. Lauren currently attends a local high school. She has plans to study veterinary medicine in post-secondary schooling and become a large animal veterinarian.
In 2018 Lauren participated in her first fair – the Barrie Fair! This is where her love for showing sheep began. Her favourite parts of the fair are the sheep show, meeting new friends, as well as renewing old friendships. She looks forward to learning more as the 2023/2024 Junior Ambassador.
Abby currently attends the University of Guelph studying Animal Biology and Biochemistry. She plans to go to veterinary college to be a large animal veterinarian.
As the 2019-2020 Barrie Fair Junior Ambassador, Abby found the ambassador program to be a tremendous learning experience! Abby wants to further her development of public speaking and networking skills, and to be more involved in the fair as the Senior Ambassador.
At the fair this year she gave speeches on behalf of the agricultural society, fair and ambassador program and networked with vendors. She also interacted with the fair visitors, raising awareness about the scholarship and leadership opportunities the ambassador program brings to youth. She also took time to enjoy the midway and pull events.
Abby looks forward to meeting new people and learning more about our local agricultural community as the 2023/2024 Senior Ambassador.
